First Time Wearing Colored Contact Lenses? Here's What to Expect
分享

Thinking about trying colored contact lenses for the first time? It's simpler than you think — but there are a few things worth knowing before you start.
Is It Safe for First-Timers?
Yes — as long as you buy certified lenses and follow basic hygiene. The key is avoiding cheap, uncertified lenses from unregulated sellers.
At Primocon, our Jeucons lenses are MDA certified (Malaysia Medical Device Authority). That means they've passed safety and quality standards — not just colored plastic you're putting in your eye.
Do I Need a Prescription?
If you have perfect vision (0 power), you can wear lenses in 0 power — no prescription needed.
If you wear glasses, you'll need your contact lens prescription — not your glasses prescription. They're slightly different. Visit your optometrist and ask for a contact lens fitting and prescription. It usually takes 15–30 minutes.
Putting Lenses In for the First Time
It sounds scary, but most people get it on the 2nd or 3rd try. Here's how:
1. Wash and dry your hands
2. Place the lens on your index fingertip — check it's not inside out (it should look like a bowl, not a bowl with flared edges)
3. Use your other hand to hold your upper eyelid up
4. Pull your lower eyelid down with the middle finger of your lens hand
5. Look up slightly and place the lens on your eye
6. Blink slowly — the lens will settle into place
If it's uncomfortable after a few blinks, take it out, rinse with solution, and try again.
What Does It Feel Like?
First-timers often notice the lens for the first 10–15 minutes. That's normal. Your eye needs a little time to adjust. Most people stop noticing it completely after that.
If you feel persistent irritation, redness, or blurry vision, take the lens out and rest your eye.
How Long Can You Wear Them the First Time?
Start with 4–6 hours on your first day. Build up gradually to a full day as your eyes adjust. Don't push through discomfort — your eyes will adapt faster if you ease in.
Which Lens Should a First-Timer Choose?
For first-timers, we recommend starting with a natural brown lens — it's the most forgiving in terms of look, and if the size or tone is slightly off, it still looks intentional.
Our top picks for beginners:
- Ring Brown (Jeucons, monthly) — most natural, easy to wear, flatters all skin tones. 0 to -10.00.
- Night (Jeucons, yearly) — deeper brown with more definition. 0 to -10.00.
- Natural Olivia Choco (Primocon, 3-monthly) — warm choco brown, comfortable for first-timers. 0 to -8.00.

Jeucons lenses are MDA certified, Primocon lenses are ISO/CE/KFDA certified. Both lenses are sensitive eye friendly and all come in 0.50 steps.
