How to Clean and Store Colored Contact Lenses Properly
分享

Colored lenses are easy to wear — but a lot of people skip the basics when it comes to cleaning and storage. That's where most eye problems start.
Here's what you need to know to wear them safely, every time.
Always Wash Your Hands First
Before touching your lenses, wash your hands with soap and water and dry them with a lint-free cloth. This one step prevents most contamination issues.
Avoid hand sanitiser before handling lenses — it can leave residue that irritates your eyes.
Use the Right Solution
Only use multi-purpose contact lens solution to clean, rinse, and store your lenses. Never substitute with:
- Tap water
- Distilled water
- Saliva
- Eye drops (unless specifically for contacts)
Water, even filtered, contains microorganisms that can cause serious eye infections.
How to Clean Your Lenses
1. Place the lens in your palm
2. Add a few drops of solution
3. Rub gently with your finger in a circular motion for about 20 seconds
4. Rinse with fresh solution
5. Place in a clean lens case filled with fresh solution
Even if your solution says "no-rub," rubbing still removes more deposits and is recommended by most optometrists.

Storage and Lens Case Care
- Change your lens case every 3 months — old cases harbour bacteria even after cleaning
- Empty and air-dry your case face-down on a clean tissue after every use
- Never top up old solution — always empty and refill with fresh solution
- Keep the case away from humid areas like directly next to the sink
How Long Can You Wear Them?
This depends on your lens type. Here's a guide:
- Primocon lenses (3-monthly disposable) — replace every 3 months from first open. Even if they still look fine, protein and deposit build-up happens over time and can irritate your eyes.
- Jeucons lenses (monthly) — replace every 30 days from first open.
-
Jeucons lenses (yearly) — technically rated for 12 months, but for good hygiene we recommend replacing every 6 months. Daily wearers especially benefit from changing more frequently, your eyes will feel the difference.
The rule of thumb: when in doubt, replace earlier. Lenses are not worth keeping past their hygiene window just to save money.
Which Lens Solution Should I Use?
Not all solutions are the same. A good multi-purpose solution does four things: clean, rinse, disinfect, and store.
We carry Nixcare lens solution at primocon.my — paired with your Jeucons or Primocon lenses so you have everything in one place. Look for solutions that are suitable for soft contact lenses and are preservative-friendly for sensitive eyes.
A few tips:
- Don't mix brands mid-bottle — finish one bottle before switching
- Check the expiry date — opened solution is usually good for 90 days
- Travel size matters — keep a small bottle in your bag for emergencies. Our travel kits (included in the Trial Set) are perfect for this.

When to Take Them Out
Remove your lenses immediately if you feel:
- Redness or irritation that doesn't settle in 5 minutes
- Blurry vision after blinking
- Pain or unusual sensitivity to light
Give your eyes a rest day once or twice a week if you wear lenses daily. Your eyes will thank you.
